Now I love matter - physical matter - flesh - really looking at it. What colour is the end of the nose? What is going on in the inner corner of an eye? How does one describe the shape and colour of the shadow on the face? Each movement of the head or shift of the light creates a completely new set of planes - a completely new painting.

Self Portraits: I love to paint the same thing over and over again. It is surprising how each and every one is so different.
